Materials Needed

  • Mason Jar
  • Burlap, Lace or Twine - Optional
  • Soy Wax Flakes
  • Pre Wax Cotton Wick String
  • Super Glue
  • Candle Fragrance Oils
  • Wax Dye - Optional
  • Large Measuring Cup
  • Mesuring Spoons
  • Cooking Thermometer
  • Fork
  • Scissors

Directions

  1. Measure The Wax
    • Measure an amount of wax that's slightly less than the capacity of your mason jar, and pour it into a measuring cup.
  2. Melt The Wax
    • Place the wax in the microwave and heat it for one minute. After that, take it out and stir. Repeat this step once more, then switch to 30-second intervals, stirring each time, until the wax is fully melted and reaches a temperature of 180–190°F.
  3. Optional - Add The Wax Dye
    • When the wax reaches 180–190°F, stir in the dye until it reaches your desired color.
  4. Add Fragrance Oil
    • Wait for the wax to cool to around 175°F, then add roughly 3 tablespoons of your preferred fragrance oil, adjusting the amount based on how strong you want the scent.
  5. Glue the Wicks
    • Set the wax aside, then take your wicks and apply a dab of super glue to the bottom of the metal base. Press the wick into the center of the mason jar. Depending on the width of your jar, you may want to use two wicks.
  6. Pour
    • Carefully pour the wax mixture into the mason jar, leaving a small amount of space at the top to fill in later if needed.
  7. Cool
    • Let mason jars rest for several hours until completely cool.
  8. Pour Again
    • Reheat the remaining wax in the measuring cup until it is fully melted again, then pour it over the top of the candle to cover any imperfections. (This is why we left some space earlier.)
  9. Trim The Wicks
    • Once everything has completely cooled, trim the wicks so they are shorter than the opening of the glass jar.
  10. Sprouce up
    • Now for the fun part! Take some string or burlap of your choice and tie or glue it around the jar. Get creative and have fun with it!
